are your fillets fresh or frozen?
You’ll NEVER find thawed fish fillets in our cabinets.
We only have fresh fillets.
Our prawns are often thawed, but we will always have a ticket that specifies if they’re fresh or thawed.
are female crays sweeter than the males?
Not necessarily. Male crays have bigger claws, and the females may contain roe. All our crayfish are sweet and tender, no matter the gender.
what is roe?
Roe is the ripe, un-fertilised internal egg masses found in the ovaries, or the released external egg masses, of certain marine animals, usually fish.
are your whole fish cleaned?
It differs for each species, but most of our whole fish for sale have been scaled and gutted. We occasionally sell uncleaned fish at a reduced cost - this just means they have scales on the outside and guts on the inside. Ask us in-store what we have on the day.
where are your oysters from?
We stock a variety of oysters, from all different places in Tasmania, that we shuck on-site daily. Ask us where they’re from on the day you come in-store.
are small flathead fillets better?
This is a common misconception, the bigger the fillet does not necessarily mean it is any less tasty than the small ones. The small ones are easier to fit in the pan though!
